Annual employer cost of a full time worker at the S/ 1,230 minimum, no children, full year (DS 015-2026-TR; Ley 27735; Ley 30334 art. 3; Ley 26790 art. 6; DS 001-97-TR art. 18 and 21; S/ 3.452 per US$, 27 October 2026).
Worked example
- A Lima retailer employs 10 cashiers at the minimum. From October 2026 each costs S/ 1,230.00 a month plus S/ 110.70 EsSalud (DS 015-2026-TR art. 1.2; Ley 26790 art. 6).
- Three cashiers support children, so each adds a S/ 123.00 family allowance, S/ 369.00 a month in total (Ley 25129 art. 1).
- Two cashiers cover the 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. shift and must earn at least S/ 1,660.50 a month each (DS 007-2002-TR art. 8).
- Over a full year each day cashier costs about S/ 20,204.80 (about US$5,853.07) before any family allowance; the budget should also assume the S/ 1,300 step announced for the first half of 2027.
Step by step
- Update payroll so no full time worker earns below S/ 1,230 from the October 2026 payroll (DS 015-2026-TR art. 1.2).
- Recalculate the family allowance at S/ 123 for eligible workers and keep proof of their children on file (Ley 25129; DS 035-90-TR art. 5).
- Check night shift pay against the S/ 1,660.50 floor (DS 007-2002-TR art. 8).
- Watch the gob.pe norms page of the Ministerio de Trabajo y Promoción del Empleo for the 2027 decree that sets the S/ 1,300 step, and budget for it now.
- Recheck pay scales that are pegged to the minimum, such as the family allowance and contribution floors.
Common traps
- The family allowance is pegged to the minimum wage, so it rises automatically with each minimum wage increase (Ley 25129 art. 1; DS 035-90-TR art. 4).
- Night workers have their own floor, 35 percent above the minimum, not just the minimum (DS 007-2002-TR art. 8).
- The second step to S/ 1,300 is announced but not yet decreed; contracts that promise 'the minimum wage' will follow it automatically once the 2027 decree is issued (DS 015-2026-TR art. 1.2).
- Bonuses, CTS and EsSalud add roughly 37 percent to the minimum wage bill, so the minimum is not the true cost of a minimum wage worker.
