Cash above RD$50,000 loses its tax effect
Last verified: 2026-10-30 · Status: Stable
Abroad cash is just another way to pay; here a payment above RD$50,000 in cash cannot support a deduction or a tax credit. The anti money laundering law also bans cash above set amounts for land, vehicles, jewelry, shares and some other deals. Notaries and registrars must refuse such deals in cash without proof of the means of payment.
USD figures use the Banco Central de la República Dominicana reference selling rate of RD$60.9007 per US dollar for 29 October 2026, the latest row in its published rate file on the verification date, rounded to the cent.

Worked example
- A company pays a contractor RD$80,000 (US$1,313.61) in cash, with a valid fiscal receipt. The expense has no tax effect. At 27% that costs RD$21,600 (US$354.68) of extra income tax, plus any ITBIS credit on the invoice.
Step by step
- Set a company rule: transfer or check for anything above RD$50,000.
- Identify the payee on the payment.
- Keep bank proof with the fiscal receipt.
- For land, vehicles, shares and similar deals, check the art. 64 limit first.
- Give the notary proof of payment.
Common traps
- The text has no express rule on splitting, but several small cash payments on one debt invite a challenge, so treat the total as the test.
- DGII may index the amount by inflation, so check it each year.
- The art. 64 limits are about the operation, in any currency.
- Cash above the art. 64 limits is banned outright, so this is more than a tax cost.
