No single minimum wage

Last verified: 2026-10-30 · Status: Changing

Abroad there is usually one national minimum; here the private sector tariff depends on company size, and other sectors have their own. From 1 February 2026 the general tariff runs from RD$16,993.20 for micro to RD$29,988 for large companies. Size turns on both staff and sales, and if the two tests differ the higher scale governs.

USD figures use the Banco Central de la República Dominicana reference selling rate of RD$60.9007 per US dollar for 29 October 2026, the latest row in its published rate file on the verification date, rounded to the cent.

General private sector tariff from 1 February 2026

Worked example

  • A consulting firm with 8 staff bills RD$60 million a year. Staff alone says micro, but sales of RD$60 million say medium, and the higher scale governs, so the tariff is RD$27,489.60 (US$451.38), not RD$16,993.20 (US$279.03).

Step by step

  1. Test both staff and sales each year.
  2. Check for a sector tariff first.
  3. Apply the higher scale if the tests differ.
  4. Update payroll on the effective date.

Common traps

  • Free zones, hotels, restaurants, domestic work, construction, sugar and nonprofits have separate tariffs, shown in the labor section.
  • A fast growing start up can jump a scale on sales alone.
  • Other laws use other salary bases for fines, so do not reuse this figure for penalties without checking.
