Worked example

  • A couple of rentals and a home worth RD$30,000,000 (about US$492,939.46) in one owner's name pays RD$193,045.06 (about US$3,171.98) a year, half in March and half in September.

Step by step

  1. Check the DGII value online.
  2. Add all properties and subtract the exemption once.
  3. Request reassessment if the value looks wrong.
  4. Pay both installments.

Common traps

  • The exemption is per owner, not per property.
  • Trusts get no exemption.
  • The DGII value can differ from the purchase price.
  • Companies are not in the DGII description of the IPI, but their real estate counts in the asset tax.
